Hi Saul
I'm still using vo_news (as well as nodeval if evaluation related) as
the main channels thru which to communicate with VOs - though I agree
that a lot of people wants to see a comm tools overhaul as one of the
key next steps.
Shame you missed the meeting on Mon. I understand there was a lack of
clarity about the date (I did write up 19th at the ICA visioning meet
though quickly changed it to 17th when Heather pointed out 19th was a
Wednesday....perhaps I sent out other email/s with the wrong date - in
which case my apologies to anyone who thought we were meeting on
Wednesday)
(Brief) minutes will be available I hope shortly - I have agreed to
write them up though as I'm as voluntary as everyone else at this point
it may take a day or so. But in a nutshell: the meet was attended by 10
people (4 first timers) and was the most difficult one we've had in a
while - essentially because we have a v limited capacity at present, no
real funds and no agreed vision for what happens next. It was hard work
but in the end I think the meet was positive insofar as we agreed that:
- those willing and able to put in time will form into subgroups
according to 3 areas: org development, fundraising and 'clarity of
message'
- they will publicise their meet times/locations, and invite
participation (esp. from perceived 'experts'/VOs who have expressed
interest in a particular area); all minutes and decisions will be made
visible and the process kept as transparent & accountable as possible
- these subgroups will get on and make proposals and decisions about how
node.london moves forward (the biggest difficulty at the meeting was
establishing the right to go ahead and do stuff on behalf of node.london
bearing in mind limited attendance/input from others - i.e. dealing with
the risk that openness and a sense of constant accountability and lack
of personal ownership slows us to a crawl, and risks making us extinct)
- members of the subgroups confirmed so far are:
Organisational Development: so far Luci, Ruth, me (meeting in September)
Fundraising: so far Heather, me, + Gini Simpson (who is a registered VO
though been unable to attend evening meets)
'Clarity of message': so far, Corrado - who will be asking others
In terms of your points Saul:
- a new wiki has in fact discussed and agreed as a good idea to take
further - so I would liase with Corrado over this and also Ruth & Luci
as it spans 'clarity of message' and org dev
- a decent mailing list / bulletin board system installed for mails like
this one and general discussion: (nodel-discuss)
- streaming and archiving of meeetings and events.
Both org dev in the 1st instance I think. Certainly revisiting the
meeting structures and tools was discussed with a shared sense that
remote participation, diff means of involving people, etc., are things
we should progress with.
international networking - chatted about though not seen as a key
priority at this stage
software development - not discussed - though needs to be obviously -
maybe in needs to be brought into org dev in the 1st instance - and Atty
could get involved?
Saul - I'm also conscious that you've said you're willing to get
involved in fundraising. Heather/Gini/myself are meeting over lunch @
space on 27th July 1 - 2pm. Could you join us then? If not we should set
up an alternative time to meet/skype - if you're up for it.
Hope that will do for now
Best

Subject: [nodeval] missed meeting, minutes, ideas
Hi All,
I'm writing to nodevaluation because (hem hem) I don't know where else
to
write.
I thougth the vo meeting was last night, I just had it in my diary that
way.. dunno why, so I missed it, which I'm pissed off with myself about.
Anyway, I don't know what was talked about or decided, but to get a grip
on what's happening, I'd really like:
- a new wiki, more like the nodevaluation wiki than the smal.omweb.org
wiki
- a decent mailing list / bulletin board system installed for mails like
this one and general discussion: (nodel-discuss)
- streaming and archiving of meeetings and events.
Were these things talked about? I'm happy to help set them up if I can
work with a team of others who will take equal responsibility.
I also wanted to talk about the international networking bit, and
software development.. but I don't know what was said so far.
Minutes would be very much appreciated, and if there are any sub-groups
or people taking responsibility for anything, then I'd like to know who
so I can talk to them without cluttering up everyone's inbox.
Cheers,
Saul.
