My new post should answer your questions 
Julian probably needs a 7.5v plug pack/wall wart for Mt View and for Guyton
street a 9v. Do you recon there is over 40m of cable to the roof at Guyton
St.

Most of the wall warts go way the voltage marked, so really a regulated one
would be best.
The router regulator does get quite hot if it gets too many volts, but it
does have a thermal cut off so it shouldn't do a damage trying out different
volts.

Adrian, I was wondering what were the problems with the "box on the
roof". So, it's the power supply not getting enough juice do you
think? An easy thing to try is to find  a wall wart with a couple more
volts  than the "proper" ones are measured at. Pretty safe thing to
try.
